Where are you based?: Ossining, New York
Camera Brand: Canon
Most Influential Photographer:
Carie Mae Weems. I see her works' influence in so many artists including myself.
Favorite Lens:
24-70mm 1.4, canon. I shoot mostly portraits and this lens is great for that but has enough versatility that I can do beautiful full length shots as well. I don't like to carry a lot of equipment so I usually carry this and a 50mm lens when I want something sharper.
In your opinion, what is the most/least diverse field of photography?:
I'm not sure because I fall into this weird category of photographer/artist/illustrator so I'm always in between. If I had to guess I would say commercial/advertising is the least diverse and fine art is the most diverse.
What do you consider the biggest hurdle for Black photographers today?
Being seen for our individual perspective and artistry, not just our race.
Share any upcoming shows/galleries/exhibits. What are you currently promoting? Share dates and locations if possible.
I have been collaborating with the National Afro-American Museum in Wilberforce, Ohio on a series of illustrated portraits that highlight historic (and current) black women from Ohio. The exhibit opens August 29.
