ABout Jamel
Jamel Shabazz is a photo documentarian whose work spans over 45 years. He is the author of ten monographs and has contributed to over three dozen.
Jamel is the recipient of the 2017 Gordon Parks Award. He has had solo exhibitions worldwide, and his work can be found in numerous collections both in the United States and around the globe.
Shabazz has worked as an instructor at the Studio Museums in Harlem's Expanding the Walls project, and he is currently working on his retrospective book titled, " The Book of Life."

Most Influential Photographer: Gordon Parks Jr.
Favorite Lens: The Canon EF 24 -70MM, F/2.8. I like this lens purely for it's versatility to captured subjects both near and far.
In your opinion, what is the most/least diverse field of photography?:
Street photography in my opinion is most diverse, and Set photography is least diverse.
What do you consider the biggest hurdle for Black photographers today?
Our ability to come together as a collective and support one another.
Share any upcoming shows/galleries/exhibits. What are you currently promoting? Share dates and locations if possible.
I am in a two man exhibition with the work of Gordon Parks Jr, titled A Choice of Weapons: Honor and Dignity. The exhibition is at the Minnesota Museum of America Art. The show is currently up until November, 2020. I am also in another group show that is up titled, " Contact High," which is on view at the International Center of Photography in NYC. The exhibition will be on view until September 2020. And lastly I am in a two man exhibition in the Netherlands with photographer Hans Rietveld at the Museum of Photography in Maastricht, Holland. That exhibit opens on June 10, 2020 and will run until December 2020.
