About Keith

New York City native Keith Major's love for photography and art began in his pre-teen years when he attended after-school programs at the Brooklyn Museum of Art and Pratt Institute. Keith specialized in photography at New York’s highly regarded High School of Art and Design, and after graduation attended the prestigious Rochester Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. With more than 30 years of experience and a roster of A-list clients including Sony Music, Colgate-Palmolive, Essence, and Cosmopolitan, Keith has achieved his childhood dreams and established a sterling reputation as one of New York’s most talented and productive commercial photographers. He is currently the Photo Director for EBONY.com

Currently, Phase One, although I've used Hasselblad, Mamiya, Canon Sinar, Pentax, and Fuji

Most Influential Photographer:
James Van der Zee, Gordon Parks, Jamel Shabazz, Barron Clairborne.

Favorite Lens:
150mm on medium format...its the ultimate portrait and beauty lens, least distortion of the face.

What do you consider the biggest hurdle for Black photographers today?
Being pigeonholed as someone who photographs only black people and or being paid equal to their white colleagues.

What is the quote that you live by?
Everyone has a role, we all contribute we all work together even if we don't realize this.
