Melissa 'Bunni' Elian is an independent multimedia journalist based in Yonkers, N.Y. Her work focuses on stories from the African Diaspora, social justice and structural inequality. Her clients include The New York Times, NBC News and The Washington Post and she’s commissioned for United Nations Women and the Lynching in America Project. Ms. Elian is working on her master’s thesis at the Columbia Journalism School and a multimedia report about the Globalization of Afropunk.

Biggest Industry Hurdle: Gear and Opportunity

Favorite Lens: 35mm 1.4 (53mm equivalent) - it's an intimate lens, about the same as my line of vision and covers all the situations a photographer can find themselves in.
